In celebration of the world’s toughest sporting event ‘Le Tour de France’ we will be holding our annual Le Tour de Staveley on Saturday July 17 2010.
It will be the fifth year we’ve run our social sportive for all abilities and the course is set to be an absolute cracker with us bringing back some of our favourite sections from previous years to produce an ‘*All Stars’ line up for the 2010 route.
Tower Top is back! This is a super steep and technical climb which will have you pumping the bars. This is followed by a new ‘Tour of the Rusland’ section which is a bit of a leg burner with some short but challenging climbs and then on to the infamous ‘Bianchi Starda’

“One of my favourite rides of 2009 was the southern Lake District event, the Tour de Staveley from WHEELBASE. The route has everything and the highlight of the day for me though was the Bianchi Strada or white road. This was a two-mile section of forest track which wound up and through the trees to reveal a stunning view of the South Lakes.” Patrick Trainor, Journalist, Cycling Weekly

This fantastic road bike sportive event has a strict capacity of 300 avid riders and will depart from outside WHEELBASE, Mill Yard in Staveley in three staggered starts 3pm to tackle a choice of either a 48 mile ‘tough’ course or the shorter 25 mile (distance tbc) option.
Both routes take in the rolling countryside of Underbarrow, Brigsteer and the pan-flat Lyth Valley with the peloton on the long course then hitting the 20% Tower Top climb. The long course then takes in High Newton, Field Broughton, Haverthwaite, the Furness Fells loop and on to the ‘Bianchi Strada’ white, gravel climb.

Both long and short course riders then reassembled at a pub stop in Bowland Bridge before ambling back through Winster en-route to Staveley for a French theme meal courtesy of Wilf’s Café and big screen coverage of Stage 13 Rodez to Revel 195 km on the Tour de France.
