Conveniently located in Darlington town centre, 15 minutes from the A1, Wheelbase North East opened its doors in May 2016. Local legend Danny Hart officially opened the store, and his Descend Bike Park is only 25 minutes away, in Hamsterley Forest – home to some of the best trail riding in the North East.

We currently stock bikes from Cannondale, Trek, Whyte, Yeti, Santa Cruz, Frog Bikes, Cervelo and Cube E-Bikes – with over 120 on display in-store as well as a full range of clothing and accessories. Our experienced team are readily available to offer assistance and advice and the workshop is on hand to service your bike maintenance needs.

Great riding is on our doorstep with the North York Moors and Yorkshire Dales offering superb but tough routes – PedalNorth has a great selection of MTB, leisure and road rides in the surrounding areas, including Hamsterley Forest. Ample public parking is available behind the store on Commercial St.

 


Used the workshop previously and always found friendly helpful staff. Yes there is a few weeks wait for a booking slot but that is a good sign. My only slight complaint would be a full disclosure of price per hour of the work to be carried out, with a estimated time it would take for the job I requested.

I am a long term customer of Wheelbase for serving and repairs - for my 3rd Specialized Rockhopper Sport now . . . and they are superb in very facet of their service department. Friendly, efficient and professional - good value for both routine servicing and repairs. Extra impressed and grateful to Matt replacing gear cable/re-tuning gears so I could keep riding until my next service. Many thanks John

Was met with great can do service from my first contact. Met as soon as I arrived after a long drive with amazing helpful and in depth advice and help. Nothing was too much trouble. Some bike shops can be very dismissive and not too great on knowledge - even some of my more local ones that I've been going to for nearly 40 years. This was definitely one of my best experiences and I will definitely shop more with them now going forward. The only shame is not having a shop more local to me. Highly recommend. Great shop and great guys to chat to.

Incredibly helpful over the phone, the store were kind enough to take an item to the post office on a Saturday so it could be sent sooner as it was a bank holiday weekend. It arrived in time, despite Royal mail not actually collecting it from the post office until Tuesday (undoing all your efforts unfortunately). I could not fault the service from your staff.

Spoke to Dominic over the phone re purchase of an e-bike. I thought it best to visit the shop as I was parting with a serious sum of money! Dominic again was able to show me the bike we had been discussing over the phone - his knowledge of the issues relating to e-bikes and his willingness to explain and answer any questions left me with no doubt that this was the place to buy my bike from. When I visited the Ilkley store to pick up my Brompton Electric G Line, I was greeted with friendly staff making the pickup experience feel excellent. Overall, the process was smooth which I am extremely pleased about. However, a problem occurred when they have notified me that they could not find the charger that was included with the bike but they said that they are going to post it to my address so hopefully that goes through (I will contact them for updates if there are any). Regardless of that, overall still a good experience and I would visit them again in the future.
