Conveniently located in Darlington town centre, 15 minutes from the A1, Wheelbase North East opened its doors in May 2016. Local legend Danny Hart officially opened the store, and his Descend Bike Park is only 25 minutes away, in Hamsterley Forest – home to some of the best trail riding in the North East.

We currently stock bikes from Cannondale, Trek, Whyte, Yeti, Santa Cruz, Woom Bikes, Marin Merida, Cervelo and Cube E-Bikes – with over 120 on display in-store as well as a full range of clothing and accessories. Our experienced team are readily available to offer assistance and advice and the workshop is on hand to service your bike maintenance needs.

Great riding is on our doorstep with the North York Moors and Yorkshire Dales offering superb but tough routes – PedalNorth has a great selection of MTB, leisure and road rides in the surrounding areas, including Hamsterley Forest. Ample public parking is available behind the store on Commercial St.

Wheelbase are a super friendly and approachable team who will help you with any questions you may have. If you have a breakdown that could be a quick turnaround they will get you back up and running while you wait rather than waiting weeks on end for a simple repair. I would highly recommend them to anyone I know. I’ve even persuaded a few to purchase the same bike I currently ride as I’m so impressed with the cost and performance. A Merida Reacto 8000 Road bike. Having decided to purchase a new e-bike, I visited two other local bike shops before going to Wheelbase in Ilkley. Unfortunately, neither experience was particularly positive. On both occasions, I was left to browse without anyone offering assistance, and when I eventually managed to speak to a member of staff, their response was rather unenthusiastic. I was also told I couldn't test ride the bikes, and I left both shops feeling as though they weren't particularly interested in making a sale. My experience at Wheelbase couldn't have been more different! From the moment I walked in, the staff were friendly, attentive and genuinely interested in helping me find the right bike. They took the time to discuss my requirements and even arranged for two different frame sizes to be brought in from another branch so I could compare them properly. I was encouraged to try both bikes and was given plenty of time to make my decision, without ever feeling rushed or under any pressure to buy. I ultimately purchased my new e-bike from Wheelbase, which also came with a complimentary service. It's refreshing to find a retailer that understands the value of good, old-fashioned customer service. The whole experience was a pleasure, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Wheelbase Ilkley to anyone considering buying a bike. A great example of how customer service should be done!
