Conveniently located in Darlington town centre, 15 minutes from the A1, Wheelbase North East opened its doors in May 2016. Local legend Danny Hart officially opened the store, and his Descend Bike Park is only 25 minutes away, in Hamsterley Forest – home to some of the best trail riding in the North East.

We currently stock bikes from Cannondale, Trek, Whyte, Yeti, Santa Cruz, Frog Bikes, Cervelo and Cube E-Bikes – with over 120 on display in-store as well as a full range of clothing and accessories. Our experienced team are readily available to offer assistance and advice and the workshop is on hand to service your bike maintenance needs.

Great riding is on our doorstep with the North York Moors and Yorkshire Dales offering superb but tough routes – PedalNorth has a great selection of MTB, leisure and road rides in the surrounding areas, including Hamsterley Forest. Ample public parking is available behind the store on Commercial St.

Extremely good service and communication. I was buying a bike for my daughter's birthday and the delivery driver didn't want to deliver it because the box was damaged and had a paint container explode over it. He was worried that the bike inside the box was damaged. Wheelbase contacted me and we worked out a solution for another bike just incase. Thankfully the bike was perfectly fine and it was just the box that was damaged. I'm very impressed with the service from Wheelbase. The bike was also built to a great standard too. I will definitely purchase from them again.

Wheelbase Ilkley has firmly become my preferred local bike shop. The team are not only highly knowledgeable, but also genuinely friendly, helpful, and patient — nothing ever feels like too much trouble. The workshop staff, in particular, really stand out. They understand that customers have a close relationship with their bikes (just as they do themselves), and they treat them with the same care and respect. Repairs and servicing are carried out efficiently to minimise downtime, and they always take the time to explain the work they’ve done. That level of transparency and education isn’t the norm, and it’s hugely appreciated. Great service from Wheelbase, ordered an Amflow PL carbon, received a curtesy call from the Ilkley store to arrange delivery, this gave me a chance to ask a few questions, they were very helpful and polite. Bike arrived quickly and was very well packaged, everything assembled super easily and everything worked perfectly thanks to the store pre assembly and checks by the professional mechanic. Highly recommended and would definitely buy from here again, many thanks!
