Living and breathing bikes, we’ve successfully built up our business across the North of England with stores in Cumbria, Yorkshire and the North East. As Wheelbase continues to expand it’s rather fitting that we’ve now opened a flagship store in Coventry, a city which can boast a major bicycle manufacturing history.

Wheelbase Coventry is ready to serve a city with a rich cycling heritage.

More than 100 years ago the city of Coventry was regarded as the home of the British cycle industry and for a significant period of time produced more bicycles than anywhere else in the world. A quick spin on your bike in and around Coventry will quickly reveal the city’s rich cycling heritage. Eagle-eyed cyclists may spot the James Starley statue in Greyfriars Green, a tribute to the English inventor and father of the UK bicycle industry, while a visit to the Coventry Transport Museum showcases over 300 bicycles in their permanent collection.

James Starley’s innovative approach to bicycle manufacturing helped pave the way for the very first mass production of bicycles with his Coventry Machinists Company bringing affordable bicycles to the masses as part of the original ‘cycling revolution’. The UK has seen a similar boom in the popularity of cycling in more recent times with an increasing amount of people making the move from public and private motor transport over to greener pedal-powered options while a rapid growth in technology has also seen the e-bike offer a more accessible route into cycling without some of the potential physical-fitness barriers typically associated with cycling.

Staffed by our Workshop Manager and a team of fully-qualified Wheelbase technicians the Wheelbase Coventry workshop will operate seven days a week. Our number one priority is customer service and we want to get you back on two wheels as swiftly and efficiently as possible; all jobs are pre-quoted before work commences and on collection we’ll talk you through all the work undertaken. Wheelbase Coventry offer a full bike-fitting experience provided by our fully-qualified bike fitters. We provide excellent support and guidance to customers during the bike fitting process, helping to ensure that both comfort and performance are improved. Through a complete analysis of fit on the bike and in motion our team will be able to identify the most appropriate frame size, handlebar width, stack and reach, saddle selection, saddle height, saddle fore/aft, leg extension and cleat placement among other important factors.
