UK Mountain Bike legend Nick Craig joined us at Wheelbase Yorkshire to help launch the Scott brand and showcase the amazing new Scott Spark RC…
To mark the start of this new working relationship Scott UK recently joined our Wheelbase Yorkshire team for an after-work ride up on Ilkley Moor, Yorkshire and our Wheelbase Lake District team for a ride after hours on the South Lakes fells. These riding sessions were an excellent opportunity for Scott UK to showcase the all-new Scott Spark RC full suspension mountain bike. This is one bike that has really caught the attention of cycling fans and industry insiders alike; when the new model was recently launched it was the bike’s innovative internal rear suspension that got everyone talking! Scott have put together a brand new fleet of Spark RC demo bikes for staff training and retailer demo events in the coming months where customers will have a chance to ride this new cutting-edge suspension platform. The lads at our Lake District and Yorkshire stores were stoked to be some of the first people in the UK to have a chance to ride Spark RC and with staff training sessions the following morning, to go through the entire Scott 2022 range our staff have been given all they need to be able to talk you through all of the fantastic Scott bikes available in their extensive range.
Staff from our Wheelbase Yorkshire, Ilkley store jumped at the chance to ride the new Scott Spark RC on their local hills.
Scott Northern Sales Manager Josh Gibson joined us on a stunning evening in the Lakes to showcase the new Scott Spark RC.

A little more about the Scott Spark RC…
Scott recently introduced the all-new Spark product full-suspension bike range made up of RC models aimed at cross country racing, 900 models which are longer-travel trail bikes and Contessa models which feature women-specific dimensions and componentry.
It goes without saying that the main talking point of these new bikes has been that innovative internal rear suspension shock. This cutting-edge suspension design includes a single pivot configuration that utilises the flex of the carbon layup at the dropout; with a sealed linkage to the internal shock at the seat tube above the bottom bracket the shock remains completely protected within the frame, sitting low down in front of the bottom bracket and easily accessible via a small removeable cover at the bottom of the downtube.
The advantages of this configuration are that the shock is totally protected from the elements, sits lower in the frame for a nice balanced, low centre of gravity and those internal frame bearings are larger than before which helps to laterally stiffen up whole the suspension platform. The all-new Spark perfectly suits typical UK riding conditions with everything stowed away within the frame and this setup also leaves room in the frame to run two water bottles. The Spark RC models feature 120mm of suspension travel, front and rear (compared with the 100mm more typically found on most cross country mountain bikes) while the more trail-focused Spark 900’s feature a 130mm of travel front and rear.
The Scott Spark RC and 900 features some really impressive Swiss engineering with its unique internal suspension platform.
During our after-work Scott riding sessions our staff were onboard the Scott Spark RC Team Issue AXS bike; these stunning bikes not only feature that innovative internal shock but also include more integration at the cockpit, with the rear hydraulic brake hose being routed through the special Syncros XC 1.5 integrated stem, down into the frame to exit at the rear brake caliper for a clean, uncluttered look. If this particular model included a mechanical rear derailleur that cable would also be routed neatly through the stem and frame internally, however, the Scott Spark RC Team Issue AXS includes SRAM’s brilliant GX Eagle AXS wireless 12-speed drivetrain with all gear changes being made via the wireless Eagle AXS rocker controller on the handlebars; the end result is a super-slick mountain bike that looks almost as sleek and aero as a modern road bike!
