Shimano EP810 Motor | Orbea Rise Lightweight E-Bike

Shimano EP810 | What You Need to Know

Introducing the long-awaited next generation of motor, Shimano EP810. There’s no hiding Shimano has been lagging behind with recent developments from Bosch and Avinox, so how does the new motor stack up?

In a nutshell the new motor is lighter, quieter, offers more assistance and huge improvements in sensors and control. It slots in the widening gap between ‘full fat’ ebikes and human powered mtb.

The outgoing EP801 has a few things which need updating. It’s noisier than most and had a reputation of being unreliable although we’ve not seen this ourselves and some staff members continue to ride theirs without fault to this day. What we loved about the old EP801 motor is the natural ride feel and power delivery, it’s super smooth and close to a steam powered ride feel. It looks like they’ve doubled down on this. However, Orbea have applied their RS tune to the new EP810 which is 100% focused on ride feel and preserving battery where possible so this new bike could be the perfect partnership!

First thing first, some stats:

Torque: 100Nm

Peak Power: 750W

Weight: 2.3kg

Features:

Natural Ride Feel – enhancing the brilliant Shimano ride feel which made the EP801 so good

Minimal Noise – lower decibels, more ride immersion

Assisted down shift when off the bike by double tapping down on the motor mode switch.

NEW Orbea Rise

SL or LT? Essentially the two options give you different travel amounts and different batteries/weights. SL or ‘Super Light’ for light and nimble, LT for “Long Travel’ and longer rides.

Orbea Rise Weight

Rise SL is 17kg and up depending on build.

Rise LT is 18kg and up depending on the build.

That puts the cat among the pigeons, with weights like that pretty common in non-e mountain bikes. Wow.

Shimano EP810 RS Tune

We’ve ridden the new Wild LT and loved the RS tune from Orbea. Dialling down the peak power and toque, unless you really want it is a really nice feature for preserving battery and ride feel. It looks safe to say that these two philosophies combined on the Rise will give us a stunning feeling ride.

Rise is a lightweight and agile, designed to feel natural and reward every rider input. This is the most powerful Rise ever, with RS tuned assistance that gives you the support to go further, climb higher, and squeeze more adventure out of every ride, while keeping the bike light, responsive, and connected to the trail.

RS Tune – what’s the deal?

Enhancing the riding experience for passionate riders.

Working with the motor assistance and electronic systems to ensure that the orbea riding experience is pure throughout.

Every element working together as a complete system to give functional simplicity, and a deeper connection to the ride.

State of the art technology that pushes boundaries, enabling new capabilities, or simplifying things that already existed.

Low weight, power where it counts.

With 100Nm of torque and the same weight as an alloy enduro bike the Rise is a seriously agile and capable bike for those people who love riding bikes.

What We’re Stocking

The new 2027 Orbea Rise range is on order, with bikes expected to arrive at WHEELBASE in late November and early December.

Whether you’re looking for a lightweight trail bike that rewards every pedal stroke or something with more suspension travel for technical riding, the Rise SL and LT offer two distinct approaches.

Orbea Rise SL – Lightweight Trail Riding

The Rise SL is the lighter, more trail-focused option, with 140mm front and rear suspension travel. It’s built for riders who value responsive handling, efficient climbing and a natural feel on flowing singletrack.

Orbea Rise SL M30 420Wh 2027

The M30 is a great starting point in the Rise range, combining the lightweight Orbea OMR carbon frame with dependable Shimano Deore shifting and Fox Performance suspension.

Its 420Wh battery keeps weight down, making this an appealing choice for riders who prioritise agility and shorter, more energetic trail rides.

Key features:

  • Orbea Rise OMR carbon frame
  • Shimano EP810 motor with Orbea RS-tuned assistance
  • 140mm front and rear suspension travel
  • Shimano Deore drivetrain
  • Fox Performance suspension
  • 420Wh battery

Orbea Rise SL M20 420Wh 2027

The M20 steps up the specification with Fox Factory suspension and a Shimano XT rear derailleur, offering a more premium build while retaining the SL’s lightweight, responsive character.

Paired with the 420Wh battery, it’s a strong option for regular trail riders looking for upgraded suspension performance without moving to the longer-travel LT platform.

Key features:

  • Orbea Rise OMR carbon frame
  • Shimano EP810 motor with Orbea RS-tuned assistance
  • 140mm front and rear suspension travel
  • Fox Factory suspension

Orbea Rise SL M10 RS 630Wh 2027

The M10 RS brings a significant step up in equipment, with Shimano XT electronic shifting and Oquo MC32TEAM wheels.

The larger 630Wh battery makes this particularly attractive for riders planning longer days in the saddle or routes with more climbing, while the SL platform retains its 140mm travel and trail-focused handling.

Key features:

  • Orbea Rise OMR carbon frame
  • Shimano EP810 motor with Orbea RS-tuned assistance
  • 140mm front and rear suspension travel
  • Shimano XT electronic shifting

Orbea Rise LT – More Travel, More Descending Capability

The Rise LT takes the same lightweight e-MTB philosophy and adds more suspension travel, with 160mm at the front and 150mm at the rear.

It’s the option for riders who enjoy steeper, rougher trails and want extra suspension capability on descents without moving to a traditional full-power, heavier e-MTB.

Orbea Rise LT M10 RS 630Wh 2027

The LT M10 RS combines the longer-travel Rise chassis with Shimano XT electronic shifting and Oquo MC32TEAM wheels, creating a capable build for demanding trail and all-mountain riding.

The 630Wh battery provides additional capacity for longer outings and sustained climbing, while Orbea’s RS-tuned Shimano EP810 assistance keeps the focus on a controlled, natural riding experience.

Key features:

  • Orbea Rise OMR carbon frame
  • Shimano EP810 motor with Orbea RS-tuned assistance
  • 160mm front and 150mm rear suspension travel
  • Shimano XT electronic shifting

Which Orbea Rise Should You Choose?

If you’re after a lightweight, lively trail bike, the Rise SL is the natural choice. The M30 offers an accessible entry into the range, the M20 upgrades the suspension, and the M10 RS adds electronic shifting, premium wheels and greater battery capacity in the version we’re stocking.

For riders who regularly tackle rougher terrain and want more suspension travel, the Rise LT M10 RS is the more suitable option.

Both platforms share Shimano’s new EP810 motor and Orbea’s RS-tuned approach to assistance, so the biggest decision comes down to how and where you ride.
