The legendary Staveley 3 Valleys Challenge is back on Saturday 13th June 2026, inviting riders of all abilities to take on some of the Lake District’s most iconic natural trails—all in support of an incredible cause. A Ride With Purpose
The 3 Valleys Challenge was originally created in memory of young mountain biker Sam Houghton, and over the years it has raised more than £200,000 for Cancer Research UK. Every pedal stroke helps continue that legacy—your entry directly supports life‑changing research.
Choose Your Challenge
This year’s event offers four route options, all starting and finishing in the South Lakes Bike Fest field near Staveley village:
Entry Fees
| Route | Distance | Fee | Age |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3VC Short | 20 km | £15 per person | 12+ (Youth category rules apply) |
| 3VC Long | 30 km | £20 per person | 18+ |
| 3VC Extra Long | 45 km | £25 per person | 18+ |
| Youth & Experience (Short route) | 20 km | £15 per team | At least one rider under 16 and one over 18 |
Riders on the Long and Extra Long routes can switch between the two during the event—ideal if the legs feel better (or worse!) than expected.
What to Expect on the Trails
The routes traverse the stunning Longsleddale, Kentmere, and Troutbeck Valleys, with the Long and Extra Long courses taking on the iconic Garburn Pass. These are natural Lake District trails—technical, beautiful, and shared with other users. Courtesy is essential.
