WAHOO CRANK IT UP BREWERY TOUR! ROUND TWO REPORT

Wahoo Crank It Up Brewery Tour

The Wahoo Wheelbase Crank It Up Brewery Tour hit the road again and headed to the Ilkley Brewery in Ilkley, Yorkshire on a rather wet Friday evening in November; following on from our successful first round in the Lake District we were keen to co-host another virtual-racing event along with Wahoo in the heartland of British road cycling. Working together with the brilliant Ilkley Brewery and our Wheelbase Yorkshire store there was plenty of noise in the build up to the event, with us all encouraging the wider cycling community to come down to the brewery for an evening of beers and bike racing. Despite the poor weather the crowds did indeed come and helped to make the night a truly fun-filled event with fast and frenetic racing throughout!

Ilkley Brewery were our fantastic hosts for Round 2 of the Wahoo Wheelbase Crank It Up Brewery Tour.

There was plenty of fine Ilkley Brewery beer flowing at Round 2 of the Wahoo Brewery Tour!

Just like our last event, round two of the Wahoo Wheelbase Crank It Up Brewery Tour had some fantastic prizes on offer, with every event attendee being eligible to win the star prize of the evening – a Wahoo Kickr Smart Trainer worth £999.99 which would be announced in a prize draw at the end of the night, meaning even if you didn’t want to test yourself on one of the Wahoo smart trainers hooked up to Zwift you could still go home with the top prize. For riders who were brave enough to take on the Wahoo hill climb challenge there was a another fantastic prize on offer – a prize pack that included a Wahoo Elemnt Rival GPS watch worth £349.00 with two prize packs being awarded to the King and Queen of the mountains who set the fastest times up a grueling 900 metre climb with an average gradient of 15%

Riders were racing the 900 metre climb against the clock but head to head racing was definitely happening too.

The Wahoo team were on hand to shout words of encouragement to each and every rider, ringing their cow bells and egging on the large crowd to cheer every single rider as they put in a maximum effort to hold their speed as the road steepened. The Ilkley Brewery beer flowed and as the night went on more and more riders were encouraged to have a go as their beer-induced confidence continued to grow. There were some fantastic efforts and we saw some impressive times up the climb as the night progressed; there was a cheeky bonus prize on offer on the night too. Kindly supplied by the Ilkley Brewery, the rider with the best ‘pain face’ on the night was going to win their own height in beer! There were some fantastic faces >_< on show with most being a genuine reaction to the pain felt by going so deep on the bike; there were a few ‘tactical pain faces’ too as some of our more savvy racers had their eyes on this awesome alcohol prize!

With riders going deep into their own personal pain caves there were some brilliant gurns on show.

With our talented photographer James Vincent in attendance to catch the atmosphere of the night and record the pain faces of each and every racer there were some absolute gurns to choose from at the end of the evening! As the racing came to a close the crowd gathered to hear who had conquered the climb with our King and Queen of the mountains being crowned and awarded their prizes. Next we moved on the awarding of the best pain face; each racer’s photo was projected on the large display and the crowd was asked to cheer each one with the best reaction winning the prize of their own height in beer. The was a very clear winner with the biggest cheer going to a rider who obviously went very deep in his effort!

The star-prize of the evening was the fantastic Wahoo Kickr Smart Trainer worth £999.99 and the crowd hushed to hear who would be drawn from the hat by the Wahoo team. With the winner announced all that was left to do was gather together for the winner’s photos and thank everyone for coming down to the Ilkley Brewery and helping make the Wahoo Brewery Tour such a fun and friendly event.
