Get the ‘Pro Treatment’ for your drivetrain with MUC OFF and gain a 50% reduction in power loss!

In a world where races are won and lost by milliseconds, marginal gains matter.

Here at Wheelbase, we now offer the full Muc Off Chain Optimisation process. Ready to take your drivetrain to the next level in terms of performance, efficiency and longevity.

Muc Off’s latest innovation brings pro-peloton power to your bike. In our workshop we now have Muc Off’s Ultrasonic Tanks, which are designed to clean and lube your chain, using the same technology and process as the best racers and teams on the planet, producing unbeatable performance gains.

It’s a common misconception that a new chain is going to be faster than a used one. This is rarely the case, especially if that used chain has been optimised.

So how does the process work and what’s to be gained in a Muc Off ‘optimised chain’?

1st STEP – THE MUC OFF HIGH-PERFORMANCE ULTRASONIC CHAIN CLEANER

The best grime killer in the business! The High-Performance Ultrasonic Chain Cleaner is a professional-strength cleaner that gives chains a deeper clean than ever before. It quickly breaks down the stickiest oils, grease and grime, giving your chain a complete refresh. It’s the first step in improving chain efficiency, by leaving a spotless, friction-free surface for your new Muc-Off lube to work its magic on – so your drivetrain works more efficiently, for longer!

2nd STEP – BRING THE HEAT

For the lubrication process, you have two choices, The Ludicrous AF or Hydrodynamic lube. Both of which are gently heated to the precise temperature required to create the optimum viscosity for the lube to penetrate deep into all contact points within the chain links. The lubricants themselves contain organic friction modifiers, which with their polarised heads and non-polarised tails, attach themselves to either side of the base oil’s surface to form a low-friction shear plane. It’s this combination of formulation and application which reduces friction, increases the amount of watts making it through your drivetrain, and to your rear wheel. The result? More speed!

LUDICROUS AF Lube

Tested and refined over the last three years by the industry’s leading experts, Ludicrous AF has been pro-peloton-approved for taking chain optimisation to an entirely new level. Thanks to the epic state-of-the-art R&D facility, Muc-Off  have created a true masterpiece – an ultra-low-friction, highly durable lube which allows you to go harder and faster for longer than ever before. The Ludicrous Lube is an ideal option for the road rider looking for that competitive advantage, not quite as durable as the Hydrodynamic Lube, but in dry conditions it offers improved performance.

HYDRODYNAMIC LUBE

The Hydrodynamic lube strikes the perfect balance between speed and durability, so you can go full gas for longer. Hand blended in the UK, it uses a synergistic blend of esters combined with aerospace-quality oil lubrication and ground-breaking extreme pressure additives, to create a high-strength, film-forming lubricant, that prevents metal-to-metal wear at peak performance, no matter how hard you’re pushing! The hydrodynamic lube is slightly more durable than the ludicrous lube, ideal for the wetter conditions we experience in the UK and perfect for the Mountain Biker looking for that edge on the competition.

THE RESULTS

Data is king when it comes to drivetrain optimisation. Muc Off worked with an elite triathlete of BMC Pro-Triathlon throughout the R&D process for their Ultrasonic Chain Optimisation, producing a chain that took them to the top step of the podium. They tested various chains within the same drivetrain, swapping out the existing chain for a new and Muc Off optimised one. The Muc Off  process delivered a 50% reduction in power loss, shown in the data below, which produced a 2nd place finish at an IRONMAN event.

The chain was returned to Muc Off for further optimisation (the same initial steps, just repeated). This time the co-efficient of friction was reduced by a further 10%, helping deliver victory their next IRONMAN. They even squeezed a further 5% out of the chain following that event! The compound effect of the optimisation process means the chain simply keeps getting faster each time the process is applied.

SUSTAINABILITY BUILT IN

You may think that the pursuit of speed, comes at the expense of the environment. Not at Muc-Off.

All their products are developed with sustainability built in, so their High-Performance Ultrasonic Chain Cleaner is readily biodegradable, Ludicrous AF is made of 75% plant-based materials, and Hydrodynamic lube is petroleum-free! The Ultrasonic Tanks allow for the safe disposal of any liquids, so you can experience all the speed, without worrying about the environmental impact.

Also, ultrasonically deep cleaning and lubricating your drivetrain means expensive componentry will last longer, minimising waste and further reducing your environmental footprint.

New Race Proven Merida Reacto and Scultura bikes now in stock!

World Tour winning technology combined with unrivalled value for money.

The new Merida Reacto and Scultura are the bikes which propelled Team Bahrain Victorious to two World Tour race wins within 30 mins of each other recently. Team Bahrain Victorious rider Phil Bauhaus was the fastest in a bunch sprint that decided stage 3 of Tirreno Adriatico, and shortly after, Santiago Buitrago celebrated an emphatic solo win at the 4th stage of Paris-Nice, both aboard their team Merida Reactos.

For the 2024 season the team will be riding the 2024 Merida Reacto and 2024 Merida Scultura. With an obvious focus on all out performance, the team will be predominantly utilising the Reacto. The Reacto is Merida’s award-winning aero bike, a leader in it’s class, which is praised by the press for being “astonishingly comfortable” (Design & Innovation Award 2018), “fast and responsive… an absolute peach” (Road CC).

When stages are longer and the strategic focus in on minimising fatigue whilst maximising comfort and endurance the team will move to the Scultura platform, featuring the same race-proven geometry as the aero specialist, the Reacto, but equipped with a lightweight, comfort focused CF3 frame which offers impressive climbing performance, razor-sharp handling, aerodynamic efficiency combined with class leading compliance.

Merida e160 Product Launch

Introducing the new Merida e160…

This is Merida’s third incarnation of the e160 and now part of their newly redesigned eTrilogy range of eMountain Bikes, featuring a redeveloped suspension platform and geometry based on their award winning One-Sixty enduro bike which offers goat-like climbing and unriavalled capability.

Is outright range your priority, or will you sacrifice battery capacity to have high-performance handling? Usually manufactures aim to combine all these attributes into one bike meaning you have to make some serious compromises when choosing which eBike is the one for you.

Merida aren’t about compromises and have developed two e160 models as part of eTrilogy range each with a specific rider focus allowing the rider to choose their new eBike based on their riding.

Merida eTrilogy Range

eONE SIXTY CF – Low weight, uncompromised handling, maximum power.

Rider Profile: The performance-orientated rider and hardcore racer.

The eONE-SIXTY CF is for the performance-orientated rider and hardcore racer who inputs a high level of effort on top of motor assistance and values handling, agility and low weight over outright battery range. The rider likes to take on the toughest climbs and descents during training sessions and push the bikes to their limits in e-enduro races and demanding enduro runs.

eONE SIXTY Lite – Range is king. Full power, all the time.

RIDER PROFILE: The adventure-orienated and demanding rider

Maximum range paired with race-ready handling are the key elements for the eONE-SIXTY LITE rider. To be able to do multiple demanding e-enduro sessions or challenging long-distance races, the rider requires top-end performance, but values range over absolute handling ability and low weight. And while the rider is not shying away from an involving riding style, the element of adventure and good times in the saddle are often the key ride objective rather than ‘split-second race performance’.

eONE FORTY – Any Trail Any Place

RIDER PROFILE: The versatile rider

Moving in a slightly different direction from it’s longer travel stable mates is the new all-aluminium eONE-FORTY. Based on the same main frame but with a rear pivot (rather than a flex pivot) rear end, the eONE-FORTY oozes versatility being perfectly at home in less technically demanding terrain.

The eONE SIXTY

e160 CF – Low weight, uncompromised handling and maximum power.

Full power assistance and range at mid-support weight. The new carbon-framed eONE-SIXTY CF is Merida’s race and performance-orientated e-bike. Key features are an all-carbon frame with a non-removal 600 Wh internal battery. By not offering a battery cut-out for battery removal and using sophisticated carbon lay-ups, Merida could massively increase stiffness and further reduce weight compared to previous e160 models. The low overall weight, combined with the battery being positioned low in the downtube, delivers maximum handling and manoeuvrability for when every second counts.

e160 Lite – Range is king. Full power, all the time.

By using aluminium for the entire frame, Merida deliver great value while maintaining stiffness and durability even with the larger battery cut-out needed for the removable battery. Similarly to its carbon counterpart, the eONE-SIXTY LITE also has increased suspension to 170 mm front and 174 mm rear travel and comes with mullet wheels setup across all sizes for maximum ‘steep terrain performance’ and agility. Via the Flip Chip, the wheel configuration can be adapted to 29er on both ends, which reduces the rear wheel travel to 160 mm but does not affect the geometry.

By combining the bigger 750 Wh battery with a 360 Wh range extender, the battery capacity increases almost 80% over the current outgoing 630 Wh version – making the eONE-SIXTY LITE the perfect bike for long and demanding e-bike outings. The new all-aluminium eONE-SIXTY LITE perfectly combines trail performance and handling with maximum battery capacity.

The all-aluminium frame features the same geometry and suspension configuration as eONE-SIXTY CF, but at its heart, it has a 750 Wh removable battery that the 360 Wh range extender can further increase meaning the only limits on your adventures are how many maps you can carry.

Key New Features of the e160 CF and e160 Lite

E-BIKE-SPECIFIC FAST KINEMATIC SUSPENSION

  • Flexstay design with completely symmetric seat stays
  • Size-specific suspension kinematics and progression, which allow the usage of coil shocks if desired
  • Offset shock to provide clearance for the range extender battery

PROGRESSIVE BUT BALANCED E-BIKE-SPECIFIC GEOMETRY

  • Steep seat angle: 78.4°
  • Slack head tube angle: 64.4°
  • Long reach for stability, short chainstays to keep the bike agile, and a steep seat angle so that the front end is planted when climbing, yet the top tube doesn’t feel too long while pedalling on the flat
  • Easy switch between 29” and mixed 29/27.5” ‘mullet’ setup wheel thanks to a flip chip in the rocker

AGILOMETER – THE RIGHT SIZE FOR ALL RIDING STYLES

  • Frame grows mainly in reach and wheelbase, while seat tube and head tube remain relatively close
  • Short head tube to allow flexibility in height
  • Right seat height on all frame sizes – thanks to the short, but straight seat tube and the innovative travel-adjustable dropper seat post fitted to most models
  • Rider can choose between frame reaches – depending on preference
